St. Catherine's Mission began in1988 as an aid to the Roman Catholic and Orthodox Churches. Its aims consisted and do consist of providing sacraments in difficult areas or situations, pastoral community counseling, ecumenism, fallen away Catholics, empowering the homeless to better themselves through counseling, career strategies, commuity resources and a sound prayer life and devotion. We are in accord withthe latest emphasis on the "New Evangelizaton." While we began as an offshoot of the Western Orthodox and Catholic Apostolic Church of Brazil, we are in close proximity to being fully incorporated in a Roman Catholic diocese or prelature. Meanwhile we are in constant prayer that our efforts will be a fruitful part of the religious life of both clergy and laity.
From 1988-1993 this Mission was dedicated to providing spiritual assistance to those in nursing homes and assisted living facilities. In 1993-2007 the emphasis turned to fostering ecumenism and grief counseling. In 2007 til he present, the current emphasis is on pre-marital counseling and empowering the homeless population to lead more productive lives. Of course, none of the above ministries are neglected in any way and are still a vital part of our religious outreach.
